Our team at Redan Masvingo Pangolin visited Mucheke Old People’s Home as part of our ongoing commitment to community support and social responsibility. The visit provided our team with an opportunity to offer practical assistance, spend time with the residents, and reaffirm the importance of compassion and service within our communities.
Mucheke Old People’s Home currently houses ten elderly residents who rely on external support for their daily needs. During our visit, we focused on activities aimed at improving comfort and cleanliness at the home. We assisted with household chores, including washing dishes, cleaning corridors, and polishing floors. We also offered personal care by trimming the residents’ nails, ensuring they felt cared for and comfortable.
In addition to physical support, we spent time engaging in conversations and storytelling with the residents. These interactions allowed us to learn from their life experiences and build meaningful connections. We were especially moved by the heartfelt prayers and words of wisdom shared by residents such as Sekuru Jiri and Gogo Jessica, who emphasized values of honesty, kindness, and hard work.
Ahead of the visit, we consulted the home’s matron for a list of essential needs. Based on her guidance, we donated groceries and toiletries, including bath soap, tissue paper, sugar, cooking oil, and assorted drinks, biscuits, and sweets. To promote sustainability, we also donated vegetable and tomato seeds for future gardening projects. While planting could not take place on the day due to limited space, we handed the seeds over for the matron’s future use.
The residents expressed sincere gratitude for the visit and the donations. The experience highlighted the challenges faced by elderly community members, particularly around limited resources and social isolation. For our team, the visit was a reminder of the impact that small acts of service can have on the well-being of vulnerable populations.
We remain committed to continuing our relationship with Mucheke Old People’s Home. Plans are already underway for periodic visits and ongoing support initiatives to ensure the residents feel valued, supported, and remembered.
